Prestbury station improvements

Local MP, David Rutley, recently met up with Regional Director for Northern, Chris Jackson and Northern Community & Sustainability Manager, Becky Styles and members of Prestbury Parish Council to review progress on delivering much-needed enhancements at Prestbury railway station.

Discussions revolved around recent improvements, including the reglazed windows in the waiting rooms and the walls, lamp posts and seating which have been repainted and imminent repair of the station car park. A community defibrillator has also been installed.

Further work is already planned to replace the platform fencing and the information screens on both platforms are scheduled for relocation to make them more visible and passenger friendly.

Mr Jackson confirmed Northern are reviewing the installation of CCTV cameras to deter anti-social behaviour, the cause of many recent issues at the station – as well as the potential for Access for All funding from the Department for Transport to address the well-founded access concerns.

To maintain the momentum in realising these essential improvements, Northern and Prestbury Parish Council are jointly establishing a Friends of Prestbury Station group, which will work to look after the station and campaign for improvements and Northern has already provided a dedicated room, complete with water supply, at the station for the group’s use.
