Appeal following Tytherington incident

Cheshire Police are appealing for information following a suspicious incident in Tytherington.

At around 4 pm on Monday 27 February, a 16-year-old girl was walking along Manchester Road, near the junction of Marlborough Drive, when a man got out of a white van, which was parked down the dirt track off Oldhams Rise, and walked towards her.

He spoke to her and asked her to get into his van. The girl refused and ran off.

The man is described as Asian, aged in his late 40s, of large build with a big grey beard and a Manchester accent.

At the time he was wearing a grey beanie hat, a black jumper, black joggers and black work boots.

Officers are now appealing for anyone with information to come forward to assist police with their enquiries.

Detective Sergeant Claire Miles said: “I know that this incident will cause great concern in the local community but please let me assure you that we are doing everything possible to identify the man.

“We will also be deploying additional officers around the area and I would urge anyone with concerns to please approach them.

“At the time that this occurred there would have been a lot of people in and around the area and I would urge anyone who saw something that didn’t look quite right to get in touch.

“The same goes to anyone who may have dashcam footage from the area or may have CCTV and has not yet spoken to an officer.

“Any information, no matter how small you feel it may be, could assist us in identifying the man.”
