A GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY?

The closure of the Cheshire Building Society headquarters on Castle Street could prove to be a blessing in disguise for our town.

Firstly, Cheshire East needs to kick the Macclesfield town centre redevelopment plan (Mark II) firmly into the long grass.

It`s a lousy, unattractive scheme that will have no benefit whatsoever for the town, its residents or businesses. The only ones to benefit will be Wilson Bowden and, I suspect, anyone anxious to bury their snouts into the redevelopment trough.

Secondly, the new owners of Macclesfield`s Grosvenor centre should be putting in a bid for the CBS building. There`s a golden opportunity here to retain the exterior of an iconic local building whilst providing a small scale retail/office development internally. Consider the fact that the Grosvenor and CBS properties are adjacent
