Live Music at the Opera House

Buxton Opera House and Pavilion Arts Centre have announced a number of live music gigs planned for the next month.

The Claire Lynch Band will be offering a Friday night treat on 28 August 7.30pm, described by Dolly Parton as one of the ‘sweetest, purest and best lead voices in the music business’, GRAMMY nominated bluegrass singer Claire Lynch is doing a short tour of UK with Buxton lucky enough to be scooping a date, in between two dates at the Guinness International Bluegrass Festival in Ireland.

On Saturday 5 September at 7.30pm Ian McNabb, lead singer of The Icicle Works will perform music from his critically aclaimed albums, including his Mercury Music nominated concept album Head Like a Rock. Support will come from jazz pianist Louis Gordon and violinist Graham Clark, who are firm favourites on the Buxton acoustic scene.

For those who enjoy jazz, Pavilion Arts centre offers the chance to see some of the best Jazz musicians in the North West during Sunday lunchtime concerts which take place each month.

Coming up on Sunday 6 September will be Chronology offering Blue Note standards with smooth Latin rhythms, foot tapping swing and funky backbeats.  For Classic music fans the venue’s Friday lunchtime Coffee Concerts provide recitals from some of the best classical musicians in the country.

Polaris Duo will deliver the next recital on Friday 11 September – offering a beautiful duo of harp and saxophone.

The sound of ‘the big o’ will fill the Opera House on Sunday 13 September when Barry Steele’s Roy Orbison and Friends relive all the hits on stage with a full band and big screen show.

The following evening folk fans are in for a big treat as Bellowhead’s fiddle player Sam Sweeney (BBC Radio 2 Folk Musician of the Year) is offering a touching and unique show, exploring music and narrative based around stories from the First World War.

The BRIT Award-winning trio Blake are also appearing in Buxton, at the Arts Centre on Tuesday 15 September, withBlake In Harmony a show inspired by the harmonies of groups such as the Three Tenors, the Bee Gees and the Lettermen.
