Die Fledermaus

Ellen Kent & Opera and Ballet International’s mystery guest has now been revealed for their forthcoming production of Die Fledermaus at Buxton Opera House on Sunday 29 November. The Opera’s stars will warmly welcome the Mayor of High Peak, Councillor Stewart Young onto stage, it has been revealed. Councillor Young has always taken a keen interest in local events, so when the chance to take part as the special mystery guest in Die Fledermaus arose, he was delighted to accept.

Mr Mayor will make a spectacular entrance into the masked ball scene in Act 2, in his full mayoral regalia and will engage in some amusing repartee with the host, Prince Orlofsky, involving champagne fountains and a toast to Buxton.

Die Fledermaus, a light hearted opera with themes of love, laughter and sweet hearted revenge has a long tradition of appearances by special guests at the Prince’s ball. The tradition was started by Strauss himself and since then the ball has welcomed many guests including Joan Sutherland and Griff-Rhys Jones.
