Two charged following Poynton bank robbery

Two men have been charged with robbery following an incident in Poynton on Friday 29th April. 

Paul Hughes, 31, of no fixed abode, Liverpool, and Sean McNeil, 24, of Allerton Road, Liverpool were both arrested on Friday 29th April following a robbery at The Royal Bank of Scotland, Fountain Place, Poynton.

Following questioning both Hughes and McNeil were charged with robbery in relation to the incident at the bank. The pair have also been charged with a second count of robbery, which relates to the theft of a Renault Van, which was stolen from and address on Oak Road, Poynton, shortly after the incident at the bank.

Hughes and McNeil have both been remanded in police custody and are set to appear at Crewe Magistrates Court on Monday 2nd May.

Superintendent Bill Dutton, Head of Local Policing Units said: “I would thank members of the public in the local area and staff at the bank,  for the information that they have provided, and the support they have shown, during this investigation.”

Investigations are currently on-going to trace a third man in relation to the incident and anyone with any information in relation to the incident is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 696 of 29/4/2016.
