RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch

The RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch 2024 is just around the corner. It’s the UK’s biggest citizen science wildlife survey, and it’s so easy to take part.

Big Garden Birdwatch is fun, free and you don’t need to have a garden: any outdoor space near where you live will work just fine. So join half a million nature lovers this January and help us understand how birds are faring.

To take part in Big Garden Birdwatch, put aside just one hour between 26-28 January, and count all the different birds you see in your garden, balcony or local park. When you’re done, go online and tell us what you saw. It’s that simple. For more information, check out the video on our website.

Why it matters

In 2024, Big Garden Birdwatch will have been running for 45 years. Since it started in 1979, the survey has become a much-loved annual event. But it also helps give us a valuable snapshot of how our garden birds are doing in the UK. The nature and climate emergency threatens even our most familiar birds, like House Sparrows and Starlings, which means every bird you count matters.

Good luck, and enjoy a wonderful hour looking out for our birds.
